Best AI Humanizer API in 2026: I Tested 5 Providers Head-to-Head
Why This Comparison Exists
It is significantly more difficult to find an API of an AI humanizer than a browser humanizer. The vast majority of humanizers out there are consumer tools where you just paste your text and hit "humanize." There are only a few APIs that can be accessed through REST by developers.
I found five services that had an API available that could be used to humanize AI text. I tested each of these services on the same text, a 1,200-word essay written by ChatGPT-4o, using three different detectors.
Test Methodology
Three documents were created using ChatGPT-4o. These included an academic essay (1,200 words) on renewable energy policy, a blog post (1,000 words) on remote work tools, and a product description (800 words) of a SaaS tool.
Each document was put through all five APIs using either their default or suggested settings. Each test was run thrice and the results were averaged.
Detected plagiarism was determined by Turnitin (institute subscription), GPTZero Pro, and Originality.ai. Response time was calculated from sending to receiving the response. Meaning preservation was rated by two editors between 1 and 10.
The five APIs used: Humanize AI Pro, Undetectable AI, Rephrasy, GPTHuman, and WriteHybrid.
Full Results: Academic Essay (1,200 Words)
Results for blog posts and product descriptions showed similar trends. Humanize AI Pro had less than 5% in all formats. Undetectable AI was always below 15%. The rest fell between 18% and 40%.
Latency proved to be important. WriteHybrid required almost 7 seconds for each request. With 200 articles a month, this means a waste of 23 minutes waiting for responses. Humanize AI Pro handled them in less than 7 minutes.
Individual API Reviews
Humanize AI Pro was the clear winner in this round. The lowest detection scores, fast responses, and great meaning preservation. The API design was quite simple – text input and mode selection, then humanized output. Five different modes: academic, formal, casual, concise, and expand. There is also a free trial plan.
Undetectable AI ranked second in this comparison. Good detection scores, but reasonable latency. To access their API, users have to create a paid account for at least $9.99 per month. The API has some additional parameters related to target detectors and readability level. It is worth considering this choice for those who are interested in more fine-tuning of the output.
The API of Rephrasy proved to be pretty decent from the perspective of detection score, but it showed poor performance regarding latency. Some missing parts were identified in the API documentation, and I had to contact customer service in order to receive information on an additional parameter. They provide a pay-by-character pricing system.
The API of GPTHuman demonstrated rather inconsistent behavior. In case of applying the API to blog texts, the results seemed to be good; however, academic texts were not processed properly. What is more important, the results were inconsistent even for the same input.
Finally, WriteHybrid was recognized by me as the API with the worst combination of both the highest latency rate and low detection scores. Additionally, the limit for the number of characters was 5,000 per request.
Pricing Comparison
| API Provider | Free Tier | Paid Starting | Billing Model |
|---|---|---|---|
| Humanize AI Pro | Yes (with API) | $9/mo | Per word |
| Undetectable AI | No | $9.99/mo | Per word |
| Rephrasy | Limited | $14.99/mo | Per character |
| GPTHuman | Limited | $19/mo | Per request |
| WriteHybrid | No | $24/mo | Per request |
Word-based pricing is more consistent compared to request-based pricing since there is a big difference between the costs associated with writing 500-word articles and 2,000-word articles. Request-based pricing doesn't take word count into account.
Humanize AI Pro is the only company offering a free plan that provides API functionality.
The Verdict
When it comes to implementing a content pipeline, using a SaaS platform or automation, Humanize AI Pro is clearly the top pick for the moment. Best accuracy, fast results, simple API integration, and a trial version that is completely free.
Second-best would be Undetectable AI because of the detector-specific targeting and their user-friendly design.
I cannot recommend the other three platforms until they resolve the problems I have mentioned. But feel free to check out their API on your own using the free tier, which should provide you with plenty of request capacity to benchmark.
